This week, we return to talk to our American friends but this time to learn about the mechanics of negotiation. Joining BIGA in this episode is Elizabeth Gamarra PhD and Hekmat Aboukhater. Both were previously Y20 delegates in India and Brazil respectively but both signed onto being Y20 Chairs this year under the Fragility, Conflict and Violence track.
Our conversation starts by looking back at their experiences as delegates, how their respective summits played out, and what the key lessons they learned were. Following this, we gain an insight into their first impressions on the Y20 Delegates of 2026 and what their expectations were going into the summit.
Finally, we reflect on whether youth engagement really matters and, more importantly, whether it is worth the effort. Both Elizabeth and Hekmat shared their lessons for a future generation of Youth Delegates and why the work they do is so important.
